What is a "Registered Locator"?
Blue Shield Protective Services Inc., is a “Registered Locator” with the State of Florida, Department of Financial Services, Division of Accounting and Auditing, Bureau of Unclaimed Property. Only a valid law firm, certified public accountant, or private investigator may be a "Registered Locator." For verification, please visit the following website: https://www.fltreasurehunt.org. As a Registered Locator, our agency can assist you with recovering any unclaimed funds or property that is currently being held by Florida's Unclaimed Funds Program. The fee to assist you with recovering any unclaimed funds or property is paid directly from the unclaimed funds held by Florida's Unclaimed Funds Program. If we are unable to help you recover your unclaimed funds then we do not get paid. We will never ask that you send us any money directly as a part of helping you recover any unclaimed funds. We are allowed to seek up to forty percent (40%) of the amount of the unclaimed funds or property if we provide full disclosure. We ALWAYS provide full disclosure; however, we are sometimes willing to accept a lesser amount or percentage depending on the circumstances.
Unclaimed property includes lost or abandoned funds, such as inactive bank accounts, securities, forgotten insurance refunds and uncashed payroll or utility deposit checks. The foregoing is not meant to be an exhaustive list of all types of unclaimed property that is part of Florida's Unclaimed Funds Program. Anything that is held for a period of at least five (5) years without being claimed is "escheated" (or sent to) the State of Florida. The funds or property remains in the custody of the State of Florida indefinitely until it is claimed. There is no Statute of Limitations (deadline) for which to file a claim to recover unclaimed funds or property with the State of Florida. In addition, no interest is paid on any unclaimed funds or property held by the State of Florida. Many people have multiple "accounts" or unclaimed funds that are being held by the State of Florida and have no idea they actually exist.
How can we help you?
Being a private investigative agency licensed in the State of Florida we are able to assist you with recovering unclaimed funds or property that is currently being held by Florida's Unclaimed Funds Program. In order to recover the unclaimed funds or property, one must establish he or she is legally entitled to the unclaimed funds or property. Sometimes it is easy to establish entitlement through a driver's license or utility bill. Sometimes, but not always, we must file paperwork with the Court in order to establish entitlement to unclaimed funds or property. An example would be a child trying to recover money being held by Florida's Unclaimed Funds Program for a deceased parent or other relative. Regardless of the complexity involved in establishing legal entitlement to unclaimed funds or property, our agency is knowledgeable with the procedures and documentation required to assist you with recovering what is legally yours. Sometimes we may invest substantial time in trying to assist a person with recovering unclaimed funds or property but may not be successful. Even in such a situation we still do not charge for our time or effort.
We are happy to search the Florida Unclaimed Funds Program's database for any unclaimed funds or property that you or a friend or family member may have. We NEVER charge for providing such a service. In addition, there is no obligation to go forward with our agency. We welcome phone calls, e-mails, and are available for in person consultations regarding helping to locate and recover unclaimed funds or property in the State of Florida.
If you would like to know if you or a loved one has any unclaimed funds or property currently being held by the State of Florida, please contact Derrick R Gordon, Private Investigator at Blue Shield Protective Services Inc., with an email and include the following information: The full first, middle, and last name of the person you would like us to research for unclaimed funds and property, the full mailing address for that person for the last five (5) years (if more than one, include them all), and a good way to contact you, i.e. phone number or e-mail address.
Please allow for up to 48 hours for us to process your request. Regardless of whether we find unclaimed funds or property or nothing, we WILL respond back to you.
Did you receive a letter from our agency in the mail?
If you received a letter from our agency in the mail it is because our research has found that you do indeed have unclaimed funds or property that is currently being held by the State of Florida. We would like to help you recover those unclaimed funds or property. In order for us to help you, we must file a claim (formal request) to have the State of Florida release your unclaimed funds or property. To file a claim, please submit a signed Limited Power of Attorney, included with the letter you received in the mail, and return it to our agency completed, along with a copy of your valid photo identification. It is very important that you fill the form out completely and include all of the requested documentation. This will ensure prompt processing of your claim and expedite you receiving your unclaimed funds. Claims filed without the required information and documentation cannot be processed by Florida's Unclaimed Funds Program (Florida Statutes, Chapter 717). We are happy to help you complete the Limited Power of Attorney and answer any questions you may have. We only receive compensation after the State of Florida has accepted and successfully processed your claim. We never expect payment directly from you, regardless of whether we are successful or not in helping you recover your unclaimed funds and property.
When can I expect to receive the unclaimed funds or property?
The standard time to process a claim is "formally" 90 days; however, it usually takes approximately 30-45 days to receive a check in the mail from the State of Florida. Property depends on what type of property it is and varies in time.
